Rare Antique Austro-Hungarian Early 20th Century 18K Gold and Silver Ring with Amethyst and Diamonds

This beautiful, intricate piece was made during the Austro-Hungarian Empire period circa 1910. The shank is crafted in 18K gold and carries Austro-Hungarian hallmarks, as well as French import marks.

In the centre rests a beautiful faceted 1.5ct ‘Rose de France’ amethyst surrounded by an intricate open scrollwork bezel made of silver and set with 14 rose cut diamonds. This design is typical of Austro-Hungarian jewellery, bold and very Holbeinesque in nature, a type of renaissance revival jewellery that rose to prominence in the 1870’s. This type of highly texturised, gothic yet colourful jewellery became a staple of Austro-Hungarian design.
