Antique French Swallow Pendant

A charming mid-19th century French pendant, crafted in high-karat gold and modelled as two swallows in flight, each carrying a tiny natural seed pearl in its beak. The finely chased feather detailing captures the delicacy of the birds’ wings, while the short chain suspending them creates a dynamic sense of motion, as if caught mid-flight.

Swallows were among the most cherished sentimental motifs of the Victorian era, symbolising safe return, fidelity, and enduring love. Strongly associated with sailors, the swallow signified a promise of homecoming and was often exchanged between lovers and families as a token of constancy.

The pendant is in very good antique condition, with light wear commensurate with age. Minor surface wear to the reverse and some old soldering visible at chain joins.
