Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Half Hoop
This scarce antique Georgian diamond half hoop gold ring dates to the early 19th century. Five rose cut diamonds are horizontally aligned, all set in closed back rubover silver-topped gold settings, with one later replacement round cut.
The diamonds are foil-backed to enhance their lustre by reflecting light back out through the stone, and the triangular facets of the rose cuts allowed them to glisten more beautifully in candlelight.
Although the more modern diamond replacement is not the best match for the other stones, the ring could easily be taken to a local jeweller who would be able to better match it with an antique rose cut diamond.
The ring is unmarked but tests as 18K gold with a silver-topped gold bezel. It weighs 1.48g, the diamonds have a diameter of 2mm and the band measures 2mm across
