Antique French Rose-Cut Diamond Pendant

An unusual early 19th-century gold drop pendant, circa 1820, probably from Provence or the Southern Alps; designed with tiered pear-shaped panels that articulate for movement. 

Five rose-cut diamonds are belcher-set in closed, foiled backs, a quintessential French technique of the period that heightens sparkle in candlelight. 

Time has mellowed the foiling to a chic, smoky tone, which sits beautifully against the rosy 9K gold.

The pendant measures approx. 5.0 × 1.5 cm; weight 6.6 g. Good antique condition with gentle age wear; the foil has darkened as expected. As with all closed-back, foiled settings, avoid moisture to preserve the stones’ brightness.
