Victorian Agate Dog Intaglio Signet
An early Victorian signet ring, crafted in 15K gold and dating from around 1850. The rectangular layered agate intaglio is carefully engraved with the image of a dog, symbolising loyalty and guardianship. The stone’s natural brown and white banding provides a striking contrast, enhancing the depth of the carving.
The gold mount features grooved shoulders, a classic design element of the period, tapering elegantly into the shank. The intaglio measures 9mm by 6mm with a depth of 3mm.
Weighing 3.48 grams, the ring is a UK size Q½ (US 8.25). Unmarked but testing as 15K gold, it remains in excellent condition, with the intaglio and setting both extremely well-preserved despite its significant age. A superb example of English mid-19th-century craftsmanship.
