Antique Rose-Cut Diamond Half Hoop
An unusual antique diamond half hoop ring, crafted in France during the early 19th century, circa 1820. The ring is set with a large rose cut diamond, surrounded by 16 smaller rose cuts. All of the diamonds are foil-backed and mounted in silver crimped collet settings, a technique very typical of the period. The triangular facets of the rose cuts were designed to glisten beautifully by candlelight - ideal for the intimate, low-lit settings of the period.
The largest diamond measures approximately 5mm in diameter. The ring is crafted in 18K gold and stamped with a French control mark for the same gold fineness, with a soft patina developed across the silver settings over two centuries of life.
UK ring size M½ (US 6.5). It has a weight of 2.73 grams, and the cluster head measures 18mm across.
Condition: Very good antique condition. All stones secure and the setting structurally sound.
A stunning example of Georgian era craftsmanship.
