Georgian Ruby and Diamond Bracelet
An antique English early 19th century gold bracelet, circa 1830. The elegant clasp is set with a ruby, surrounded on each side by an old mine cut diamond.
The bracelet is crafted in 18K yellow and each link is decorated with intricate repoussé-work floral and scrolled motifs, typical of the Regency period. The bracelet is completed with a safety chain and box clasp which has a secret. The underside of the clasp has a very small hidden compartment! Though the links are of a hollow construction, the overall weight of the bracelet is a good 22.4 grams. The bracelet remains in great condition despite its significant age. The gemstones are securely set and the clasp functions perfectly. There are some darker tarnished areas visible on the surface of the gold, however these could easily be polished out.
The bracelet measures 18.5cm in length. It would have been made in England, and later retailed in Paris. This is shown by the presence of a French ‘owl’ 18K gold import control mark on the tongue of the clasp.
A truly stunning and wearable example of Georgian craftsmanship!
