










Portuguese Steel and Gold Signet
A traditional antique Portuguese steel and gold signet ring, dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900.
The ring shows a coat of arms which has been engraved onto an oval steel plaque. This combination of both steel and inlayed gold is typical of Portuguese signet rings. The coat of arms belongs to a nobleman and the carving would have been used to make wax seals for important deeds and letters regarding family affairs. The inner band is crafted from high karat gold.
UK size P, US size 7.5
The ring weighs 10.08 grams, and the oval face measures 13mm x 10mm. The band measures 5.5mm across at the back of the ring. The gold tests as 19.2K, the Portuguese gold standard.
