Seljuk Dynasty Islamic Nielloed Silver Ring
Very Rare Antique Seljuk ‘Selçuklu’ Period Niello & Silver Islamic Ring
This incredible piece dates to the 11-13th century Seljuk/Seljuq dynasty. The rectangular bezel features an ornately chisel cut and nielloed border of scrolled, arabesque patterns. Four decorative prongs are soldered in each corner. There is further nielloed chasing around the bevelled edges of the bezel which continues down the tapered shank. The shank, of a semi-circular cross-section, is decorated with two raised shoulder shields in the form of a bird. Finally, a diamond-shaped vestigial sprue (back-knob) completed the shank.
