Antique Hope Cameo Ring
A 19th century hardstone cameo ring, crafted in 9K gold, circa 1860.
This beautiful agate is carved from a singleĀ stone with great skill to reveal the symbolic classical female figure representing āHope' in neoclassical style. The carver cleverly uses each of the stoneās coloured layers to highlight the foreground and background. The young Goddess is depicted leaning on an anchor looking longingly into the distance, wearing a stola draping over the shoulder.
The gold mount is stamped with a French import control mark to indicate a gold fineness of 9K. The ring is in good overall condition despite its significant age. There is evidence of a historic resizing on the band.
