







Victorian Monogram Intaglio Ring
A charming antique gold intaglio signet ring set, made in France and dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880.
The bezel is set with a red-pink layered sardonyx stone which has been intricately carved to show a personal monogram. It is carved in negative, so that when pressed into sealing wax, the monogram will display in positive. The stone is bezel set in an 18K yellow gold mount, the shoulders display a scrolled motif with grooves running across the entire shank.
The ring weighs 6.26 grams. It is in good overall condition, there is evidence of a past repair to one of the shoulder joints. The outer band is stamped with a French control mark to indicate a minimum fineness of 18K gold. The carnelian measures 14mm x 10mm.
