Vintage French Lapis Earrings

A classic pair of vintage French dormeuse earrings, crafted circa 1970s in solid 18K gold and set with deep blue lapis lazuli cabochons flecked with golden pyrite.

Each earring is mounted with an oval lapis cabochon of rich ultramarine tone, displaying an even scattering of subtle metallic pyrite inclusions - a natural hallmark of high-quality lapis from Afghanistan or the Middle East. The stones are bezel set in plain oval frames, topped with polished gold spheres, and suspended from traditional dormeuse (or “sleeper”) hook fittings with lever backs; a style originally developed in the 19th century for comfortable overnight wear, and revived frequently in French jewellery design.
