Antique Acorn with a Secret

This antique silver acorn pendant dating to the early 20th century has a secret! The acorn cap unscrews to reveal a hidden compartment containing the original object - a collapsible cigarette holder. The acorn is in great condition, it is stamped with faded hallmarks, possibly Russian, and the makers mark LW. The bail is gold tone metal and the cigarette holder is crafted in silver with a bakelite mouthpiece (small chip on one corner).

In the Victorian and Edwardian periods, the acorn was a very popular motif that conveyed longevity and renewal. Thanks to its size and shape, the locket could be used to hold any manner of small objects or mementos.

The pendant measures 3cm by 1.5cm and weighs 4.29 grams.
