Austro-Hungarian Gold Bangle
An unusual and striking antique bangle, crafted in solid 14K gold in the Austro-Hungarian Empire around 1895. Weighing a substantial 16.86 grams, this piece features a bold and evocative design that appears to take inspiration from the form of a buckle - or possibly even the bifurcated Zulfikar sword, a powerful symbol of strength and resilience, particularly in Shia and Alawite iconography.
The central section is adorned with five gemstones in a linear arrangement: a ruby, emerald, two sapphires, and a white paste stone (which is likely a later replacement). The ābuckleā clasp is further decorated with seed pearls, highlighting the delicate craftsmanship typical of late 19th-century Austro-Hungarian jewellery.
The bangle is fully stamped with both a '14K' fineness mark and an Austro-Hungarian hallmark on the clasp tongue. It measures 53mm x 58mm internally and fits nicely on a small to medium wrist.
Condition: Good antique condition. The clasp closes securely and the gold surface shows only minor wear commensurate with age.
