Georgian Rose Cut Solitaire Ring
This beautiful antique diamond solitaire ring was made in France and dates from the very early 19th century, circa 1820.
The ring is set with a fantastic domed rose cut diamond in a cut down collet silver setting. The diamond is foil-backed and rests in a closed-back setting. The triangular facets of rose cuts were very popular during the Georgian period as they glistened more beautifully in candlelight than any other cut. It adjoins to a gold hoop of circular cross-section, crafted in 18K gold.
UK size N 1/2, US size 7
The ring weighs 2.12 grams. The round silver bezel measures 6mm in diameter, whilst the rose cut diamond measures 5mm across on its longest axis. The diamond displays some natural black carbon inclusions. There is a French control mark on the band to indicate a minimum fineness of 18K gold. Diamond approx 0.25ct.
