Victorian Sapphire and Diamond Cluster

A gorgeous antique sapphire and diamond cluster ring, circa 1900.

This late Victorian 18K gold cluster ring is set with a beautiful natural cushion cut 2.8ct cornflower blue sapphire in a clawed setting. It is bordered by a halo of 12 old cut earth-mined diamonds. All of the stones are in open-backed settings which allows light to pass through the stones and enables easy cleaning of the ring. The low profile of ring, as well as the benefits of the open-back setting, would make this an excellent antique engagement ring. The shoulders are engraved with decorative motifs which lead to a smooth shank.

The ring is in good overall condition and all the stones are securely set. The sapphire has excellent colour and clarity, however upon loupe magnification, there are some light abrasions to the gem facet junctions, commensurate with age.

The ring weighs 6.21 grams and tests as 18K gold. The oval cluster measures 16mm x 13mm.
