Edwardian Pink Sapphire Ring
A lovely antique Edwardian era pink sapphire and diamond ring, dating to circa 1910, within the Belle Époque period.
At its centre sits a bezel-set pink Verneuil sapphire of approximately 1.3ct, displaying a vivid and highly saturated hue. The stone is most likely a flame fusion sapphire; a remarkable innovation of the late 19th century, perfected by Auguste Verneuil. First presented at the 1900 Paris Exposition, these laboratory-grown sapphires were chemically identical to natural stones and admired for their exceptional clarity and striking colour. At the height of their introduction, such stones were considered a modern luxury and could command prices equal to, or even exceeding, their natural counterparts.
The central gemstone is framed by a delicate surround of small rose cut diamonds, set in platinum, providing a soft glittering contrast to the vibrant pink centre. The ring is crafted in 18K yellow gold, with elegant pinched shoulders typical of the Edwardian period.
A refined and wearable example of early 20th century jewellery, combining traditional craftsmanship with one of the most important gemmological innovations of its time.
