Austro-Hungarian Bow Necklace
This exquisite Austro-Hungarian necklace, crafted in Vienna around 1900, is a delicate example of the region’s fine jewellery craftsmanship. Composed of 14K gold, with the bow section testing even higher at 18K gold, it features a series of scrolling floral motifs and ribbon bows, set with white and pink topaz gemstones.
A 9 x 5 x 3 mm pear-shaped pink topaz forms the centre drop, suspended from a garland of foliage and bezel-set gemstones. The two-tone gold adds depth to the intricate design, which reflects the influence of late 19th-century Rococo Revival and Belle Époque aesthetics.
- Centrepiece dimensions: 7 cm x 3.5 cm
- Total length: 42 cm (16.5 inches)
- Weight: 9.1 grams
- Hallmarks: Stamped with the Austro-Hungarian ‘wolf head’ hallmark, indicating Vienna-made 14K gold (1872–1922)
A fine example of turn-of-the-century Viennese craftsmanship, this necklace is both elegant and historically significant.
Condition: Excellent antique condition, with minimal wear to the gold and gemstones.
