A refined and elegant French ring dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880. The elongated navette-shaped head is centred with a step-cut emerald of vivid, bright green colour, surrounded by a dense field of old-cut diamonds which taper elegantly towards the pointed terminals, creating a strong sense of movement and excellent finger coverage.
The ring is crafted in 18K gold, topped with silver to the diamond settings, a traditional French technique employed throughout the 19th century to enhance the visual brightness of diamonds under candlelight. All gemstones are set in open-backed settings, allowing light to pass freely through the stones and enabling both easy cleaning and comfortable daily wear.
The emerald measures approximately 5 × 4 × 2.5 mm, with an estimated weight of around 0.4cts. Emerald-centred navette cluster rings are distinctly uncommon; examples of this type are far more frequently encountered with rubies or sapphires at their centre, making the use of an emerald here particularly notable and visually striking. Under magnification, there is a small chip to one corner of the emerald and some softening to the facet edges, consistent with age and wear; a light polish could be undertaken if desired, though the stone presents very well as it stands.
The surrounding diamonds, numbering approximately fifty, are old cut stones of varied size, lively and well matched, set closely together to form a continuous, scintillating surface across the silver-topped head. French owl and swan hallmarks confirm the use of 18K gold and silver respectively.
