Vintage French Snake Ring

A beautifully sculpted vintage French snake ring, made in Paris during the 1960s and executed in solid 18K gold. The design centres on a coiled serpent whose body wraps sinuously around the finger, the form bold yet fluid, with a pleasing sense of movement characteristic of mid-20th-century French goldsmithing.

The snake’s head is finely modelled and set with small ruby eyes, giving a vivid flash of colour against the warm gold. Notably, the mouth is rendered open with visible fangs; a detail far less commonly encountered and one that lends the piece a striking, slightly menacing character. 

The ring has a substantial feel, weighing 6.18 grams, and sits comfortably on the hand. It is stamped with the French eagle head control mark, confirming a minimum fineness of 18K gold, with additional maker’s marks present. Offered in very good condition, this is a confident and characterful example of a classic serpent motif, interpreted through a distinctly Parisian, mid-century lens.
