Tunisian Gold Tassle Pendant Chichbaghou
Unusual Antique Rare Tunisian 9K Gold Ornament
This solid gold tassle, similar to a chichbaghou, dates to the mid-20th century and was made in Tunisia. It would have been worn by the beldi (upper class) women of Tunis, with freshwater pearls and rare coral as part of traditional Bedouin dress.
Coral is a staple feature of Tunisian jewellery, and has been harvested for centuries from the rocky seabed of the Coral Coast, which stretches for over 300km from Bizerte to Tabarka.
