Antique Spinel Spider Pendant

Antique Spinel Spider Pendant

A rare and beautifully unusual Austro-Hungarian pendant, crafted in solid 14K yellow gold and dating from the early 1920s. Made in Vienna between 1922 and 1925, this openwork design centres on a stylised spider, its body set with a vivid pink spinel and a smaller white spinel above.

The goldwork is finely textured to resemble bark and branches, enhancing the three-dimensional depth of the piece. Oak leaves are often associated with strength and endurance, while the spider has long represented creativity, patience, and the weaving of fate.

The central pink spinel measures approximately 4mm x 3mm and displays excellent colour and clarity.Ā

This pendant is struck with Austrian hallmarks from the Vienna assay office, dating it precisely to the post-World War I Austro-Hungarian period. It measures approximately 2.5cm by 2cm and weighs 2 grams.

Condition: Excellent, with all gemstones securely set. Hallmarks remain clear. A scarce and finely executed piece of early 20th-century Viennese jewellery, with strong symbolic and collector appeal.
