Antique Ruby Locket Necklace

A romantic French heart locket in rich 18k gold, dating to around 1900, and set with a cabochon ruby at its centre. The piece opens to reveal its original mementos, a fine textile remnant and a faded photograph, protected behind intact heart-shaped glazing. These elements can easily be removed and replaced with your own images or tokens.

The locket is decorated with a small natural ruby cabochon mounted in a sharply engraved radiating star setting. Rubies are traditionally associated with love, making them a fitting choice for a sentimental jewel of this type.

The locket is stamped with a French tête d’aigle (eagle head) hallmark is struck to the suspension bail, confirming its 18K gold composition, and that it was made in Paris. The accompanying chain, a later 20th-century gold anchor trace with bolt clasp, also tests as 18k and measures 51cm (20 inches) in length.
