French Gold Locket Necklace

A charming antique French necklace, crafted around 1900 in solid 18K gold. The circular locket is adorned with pink gemstones, two natural spinels and two well-matched paste replacements, set among delicately engraved foliate motifs. Each leaf is inlaid with green gold, a subtle and sophisticated touch that was fashionable in turn-of-the-century French jewellery.

The locket features a soft textured finish. Inside, it opens smoothly to reveal a compartment that would have once held a portrait or a lock of hair—now perfect for keeping a small keepsake close.

The necklace measures 50cm (19.5 inches) in length and weighs 7.82 grams in total, making it a comfortable and lightweight piece for everyday wear. The locket itself measures 22mm in diameter. Both the locket and chain test as 18K gold.

Condition: Good antique condition with minor signs of wear. Two of the pink stones appear to be later paste replacements, closely matched in colour. The locket hinge and clasp function securely.
