Victorian Bloodstone Locket Ring

This superb Victorian gold signet ring, dating from around 1870, features a hidden locket compartment—an enchanting detail characteristic of the period. The locket opens to reveal a secret compartment behind glass, complete with a grey fabric backdrop, likely intended to hold a cherished memento or photograph.

At its centre is an oval bloodstone (heliotrope), measuring 12 x 9 mm. The gemstone displays subtle red flecks against a rich green background. Historically known as the 'stone of courage,' bloodstone was believed to offer protection in battle and was revered for its supposed ability to stop bleeding wounds. It also serves as the birthstone for March.

Crafted in 15K gold—a standard widely used in the 19th century—the ring has a satisfying weight of 7.69 grams. The band, measuring 2.5 mm at its narrowest point, provides a comfortable fit and transitions elegantly into the bezel setting.
